Click here to purchase Windows Hosting for DotNetNuke...

We know that Hostgator is one of the popular hosting providers for PHP based web applications. However, it has been asked that why Hostgator never provided Windows Hosting packages that support ASP, ASP.NET platforms. Finally Hostgator introduced its shared hosting packages for Windows platforms. Currently there are only two packages available and compared to Godaddy it is not cheap yet. To make a short comperation i decided to purchase a hosting package for one month and tried to install DotNetNuke on Hostgator. Hostgator currently provides latest version of Plesk Panel and it is really easy to install DotNetNuke or any other ASP.NET based application to your hosting account. In my case, i first tried to install DotNetNuke 5.6.2 to my Hostgator account and had a little problem with file permissions. After resolving the issue, i had a working DotNetNuke installation quickly. I then decided to deploy an existing development environment to production. Unfortunetely, i first had an issue with uploading database backup file from Plesk. Since my backup file size was greater then 70 MB, Plesk was timing out. So, i had to create a support ticket and Hostgator guys whom i rate 5/5, told me to upload the backup file via ftp. They said, they'll restore the database and did so. The second issue i had was, unable to access WebAdmin for managing SQL Database tables and records. Hostgator guys again told me that WebAdmin is not installed for security purposes. Instead, they instructed me to use SQL Server Management Studio Express, which i already have it installed on my computer. The problem is you need to report your public ip address to Hostgator each time you need to use SSMS. Besides, it could be a challanging task to use SSMS from remote locations if you are a busy Database Administrator like me. Update: They have updated Plesk with Whitelisting tool. So you can add your own IP address from there... Well, overall i have deployed a hostel booking website to my Hostgator account within several hours.

My readers has been asking whether they can use my tutorials to upgrade their dotnetnuke installations to latest release or make a fresh dotnetnuke installation.

Yes, it is safe to apply my instructions to have a rocks solid dotnetnuke website under Godaddy hosting provider.

Well, to be honest you can even host multiple DotNetNuke Portals under single web hosting package.

Why spend more money? Just pick up Dotnetnuke Community edition and purchase a hosting package from Godaddy. Unlike some people, i am not using my referral link here. Instead i am sharing my knowledge for those lazy folks.

As always i provide money back warranty in case you don't like my stuff.

Take a look at comments from my readers. I have replied all of them.

I already notified registered users of this website, but i want to also warn anonymous visitors about a very critical security hole within ASP.NET.

Last week, some guys demonstrated an action that could help a hacker to attack websites under ASP.NET, regardless of which version being used.

Those guys, first browsing a non-existing page to see error page, and somehow they are getting necessary inputs from there to generate authentication tickets.

Previously, i have written an article that states "Godaddy does not support ASP.NET 4.0 yet, therefore forget about installing DotNetNuke 5.5 to Godaddy". But things changed quickly, and now Godaddy allows you to install DotNetNuke 5.5.1 into a subfolder by default.

However, installing DotNetNuke to a subfolder (e.g dotnetnuke folder) would be troublesome. The main reason is, you need to use a redirect visitors into subfolder if they try to access your website by fqdn. You also can't have multiple parent portals with unique domains if you install DNN into a subfolder.

Unlike Godaddy's restrictive limitations, i am going to tell you how to unlock those with easy steps.

Now, i am updating my tutorial base for latest enhancements and hopefully next week will be the milestone for DotNetNuke users.

Keep an eye on this blog and don't hesitate to ask any questions.
