Mauricio Márquez recently blogged about an option to have menu items open in a new browser window via a simple trick. He might think this is useful for some DotNetNuke users. I agree in most cases. But sometimes, it might cause other unexpected problems with custom modules. Mauricio's method is using a javascript in Page Settings. More details can be found at following link: New Windows from menu item? If you are using some third party module (e.g Ventrian News Articles) and sub module to select main module tab from View Options or Settings menu, you probably will be unable to select that tab, because it has custom settings in page settings of tabname. I have experienced this issue before with friendly urls and had to define human friendly urls of each tabname in page settings. But this method resulted unexpected issues with dropdown list items of third party modules. Update: It looks like using this javascript no longer causes problem with dropdown list control in Ventrian modules. As a result, instead of using javascript or other includes in page settings; i strongly recommend using a third party navigation menu such as Snapsis CSS Navigation Menu. Hopefully, New DNN Menu will provide better options for handling navigation menu items.
